The Jackson County Public Schools Calendar for the academic years 2024-2025 has been carefully planned to ensure a balanced schedule for students and staff. Here is a human-friendly overview of the key dates, making it easier for you to navigate the school year and plan ahead.
2024-2025 School Year Overview
Employee Work Days/Professional Development: Before the students start their classes, there are designated days for teachers and staff to prepare. These workdays are scheduled on August 1, 2, and 5, 2024. This time is crucial for setting up the classrooms and organizing lesson plans, ensuring that everything is ready for a successful year.
Students’ First Day: The new school year officially begins for students on August 6, 2024. It’s always an exciting time as students return to school, see their friends, and meet their new teachers.
Labor Day Holiday: The first holiday of the school year is Labor Day, which will be observed on September 2, 2024. This gives everyone a short break after the first month of school.
Fall Break: As the school year moves into autumn, October 14-18, 2024 is scheduled as Fall Break. This is a perfect opportunity for families to take a breather and enjoy the cooler weather or go on a small vacation.
Veterans’ Day: November 11, 2024, will be a day off for everyone in honor of Veterans’ Day, allowing students and staff to recognize the contributions of those who have served in the military.
Thanksgiving Break: November 25-29, 2024 is set aside for Thanksgiving Break, providing students, staff, and families ample time to gather, celebrate, and rest.
Christmas Break: The longest break of the year is, of course, the Christmas holiday. It begins on December 23, 2024, and continues through January 2, 2025. This two-week break gives everyone a chance to celebrate the holiday season and recharge for the upcoming year.
Employee Work Day/Professional Development: After Christmas Break, January 3, 2025, is set as an employee workday, allowing teachers to prepare for the second half of the school year.
Students Return: Students come back to school on January 6, 2025, to begin the second semester.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day: January 20, 2025, will be a holiday to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
E-Learning Days: Two E-Learning Days are scheduled for February 17, 2025, and April 28, 2025. These are days where students can learn from home, giving flexibility and using digital resources.
Spring Break: March 31 – April 4, 2025, is Spring Break, a much-needed time off as winter ends and spring begins.
Students’ Last Day: The school year will conclude on May 22, 2025, which is the last day for students.
Employee Work Day: After students finish their year, May 23, 2025, is scheduled as a workday for teachers to wrap things up.
PD Makeup Days: May 27-28, 2025, are set as Professional Development makeup days, required for employees who missed previous PD opportunities.
These dates have been thoughtfully scheduled to ensure that students have the breaks they need throughout the year while maintaining a consistent learning environment. Holidays like Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas provide opportunities for families to spend time together, while professional development days help staff stay up-to-date with the latest educational strategies.
