 Dates for the 2024-2025 School Year

July 1-4, 2024 – Independence Day Holiday

The district observes the Fourth of July holiday, with all schools and offices closed. This break offers students, families, and staff a time to celebrate and recharge before the new school year begins.

August 5-9, 2024 – Optional Teacher Workdays

Teachers have the option to prepare for the school year during this week, setting up classrooms, finalizing lesson plans, and attending training sessions. This preparation helps ensure a smooth start to the school year.

August 12-16, 2024 – Required Teacher Workdays

These workdays are mandatory for teachers and involve professional development and final classroom preparations. Teachers use this time to review instructional strategies and collaborate with colleagues to create an engaging learning environment.

August 19, 2024 – First Day of School

The excitement is in the air as students across Craven County head back to school. This day marks the official start of the school year, filled with introductions, setting classroom expectations, and a focus on building a strong learning community.

September 2, 2024 – Labor Day Holiday

All schools and administrative offices are closed in observance of Labor Day, providing a break for students and staff alike.

October 14, 2024 – Teacher Workday (No School for Students)

While students enjoy a day off, teachers participate in planning sessions and other professional activities. This day allows teachers to reflect on students’ progress and adjust instruction as needed.

November 11, 2024 – Veterans’ Day (Holiday)

The district honors Veterans’ Day with a holiday for all. This is a time for students, families, and staff to reflect on and appreciate the service of veterans in the community.

November 25-29, 2024 – Thanksgiving Break

Students and teachers have the week off to celebrate Thanksgiving. The break provides an opportunity to spend time with family and friends, rest, and prepare for the remaining weeks of the semester.

December 18-20, 2024 – Exam Days (Early Release for Students)

These three days are dedicated to final exams, with early dismissal to give students time to prepare and focus. High school students complete their semester assessments, which evaluate their understanding of key concepts before the winter break.

December 23-31, 2024 – Winter Break

A much-anticipated break for students and staff alike, the winter holiday offers time to relax, celebrate, and recharge for the upcoming semester. Schools and administrative offices are closed during this period.

January 1, 2025 – New Year’s Day (Holiday)

Schools remain closed for New Year’s Day as the district celebrates the start of a new year. This holiday allows everyone to ease into January before returning to school.

January 2-3, 2025 – Winter Break (Holiday)

The winter holiday break continues for students and teachers, extending relaxation time into early January before the spring semester begins.

January 6, 2025 – Teacher Workday (No School for Students)

Teachers use this day for planning and preparing for the new semester. This workday helps them reflect on the first semester’s successes and set goals for the remainder of the school year.

January 20, 2025 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Holiday)

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., schools are closed to give students, families, and staff a chance to reflect on his legacy and contributions to social justice.

March 7, 2025 – Early Release Day

Students have an early release day, allowing teachers additional time to focus on professional development and collaborative planning.

March 17-21, 2025 – Spring Break

Spring Break provides a well-deserved rest period for students, teachers, and staff. This week off allows families to recharge and prepare for the last stretch of the school year.

May 26, 2025 – Memorial Day (Holiday)

Schools are closed in observance of Memorial Day, honoring those who have served the country. This holiday also signals that the end of the school year is near.

June 3, 2025 – Last Day of School for Students

The last day of the school year is here! Students and teachers celebrate a year of hard work and achievements. It’s a time for students to say goodbye to friends and teachers and begin their summer vacation.

June 4, 2025 – Post-Planning Day for Teachers

Teachers have one final day to wrap up the school year, complete administrative tasks, and organize their classrooms. This post-planning day provides teachers with closure and helps them prepare for the upcoming school year.
